Aquatic Technical Operator
Aquatic Technical Operator Skill Set (SISSS00131)
This course provides candidates with the knowledge and skills relevant to the supervision and operation of an aquatic facility, plant and associated equipment and the monitoring and maintaining of water quality. This course is the industry standard for pool supervisors.

SISXFAC0099 - Coordinate facility maintenance
SISCAQU015 - Test pool water quality
SISCAQ016 - Manage pool water quality
SISCAQU017 - Monitor and maintain aquatic facility plant and equipment
BSBWHS308 - Participate in WHS hazard identification, risk assessment and risk control processes
Introduction:
Target Audience:
There are no prerequisites for enrolment although it is recommended that participants:

- currently work in the industry

- are minimum of 16 years of age

Classroom activities will cover theoretical components of the units and access to the practical facilities required to practise necessary tasks prior to being undertaken in the workplace.
Classroom Arrangements
For the classroom and plant room activities, participants must have their hair tied back and wear:
- fully enclosed shoes
- long sleeve shirt
- long pants
Classroom Location
Classroom activities will take place at a local aquatic facility to be advised and will depend upon availability and access to the required plant and equipment.
Classroom Duration
Two full days (approximately 16 hours training time)
0900 - 1700
Workplace Arrangements
Participants are then required to undertake practical hours in the workplace under supervision of suitably qualified staff to complete the Student Workbook for submission.
Workplace Location
Tasks completed in the workplace will take place at the participants place of work.
Workplace Duration
Time required in the workplace to carry out all required tasks will vary between individuals. Considerations include:
- hours worked
- availability of suitably qualified staff members to supervise tasks
Royal Life Saving SA will:
- provide an appropriate training facility to ensure access to all necessary plant and equipment
- provide support to participants throughout the course to facilitate successful completion of the Aquatic Technical Operator Skill Set and the achievement of a Statement of Attainment.
- any additional support provided to a participant will not incur any further costs
Participants must:
- have access to an appropriate facility in which to undertake their workplace training
- supply the necessary documentation to their workplace supervisor to gain approval from Royal Life Saving SA to act as a suitably qualified supervisor
Participating in the course, the participant acknowledges that they have the physical ability to meet the required performance evidence of the course and understand that they cannot hold the trainer or Royal Life Saving SA responsible for any injury or illness that occurs from this training.

It is recommended that the Aquatic Technical Operator Skill Set is updated 4 yearly, and that regular professional development be undertaken to ensure current skills and knowledge.
